Women in the East Africa Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church welcome you to their interesting stories. This page is a devoted network that highlights the voices of women.
Today women from Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, Sudan and Kenya are able to connect and speak out their voices and now there is tremendous indication of growth from kitchen table to global network. In fact this has created partnership with the women board of global ministries and other international United Methodist Organizations and thousands of lives of women have been transformed.
History.
What started as a word has grown into reality.
As a young Bishop, born in Busoga region in Uganda and Resident Bishop for the East Africa Annual Conference, Daniel Wandabula and his dear wife Betty Wandabula discovered that one of the hindrances of church growth was lack of physical motivation especially for women.
There is no way the church can gain momentum without addressing the issues of women. Therefore Bishop Wandabula began the journey by speaking to women who later formed women groups in every church with a hope OF create a world class stage for voices and solutions of women.
Here the first group is at Wanyange Central United Methodist Church in Jinja district Uganda. Hundreds of women are benefiting from various projects set up. The projects include, Art and Crafts, tailoring, poultry, agriculture, piggery and trade.
In Sudan women too are vibrant. They are engaged in projects of tailoring and milling. In fact they are one of the best suppliers of School Uniforms in Yei, Southern Sudan. Also there is immense partnership with Holston Annual Conference who has so far donated a maize and oil mill.
In Kenya, women are positioned across the various United Methodist districts. At Migori Nyanza, women are engaged in goat rearing. These women came as a result of HIV/AIDS. These women have been stigmatized by their families. The church therefore stands the burden of creating hope in these women.
At Nabulagala United Methodist Church, over 400 refugees are benefiting from a local shop enterprise. These Refugees are from the Countries of Burundi, Democratic Repulic of Congo and Rwanda.
At Namboole United Methodist Church women are in full gear of piggery project.
The movement has since expanded and today, the church has registered tremendous growth across the five countries.
