East Africa Annual Coference in Rwanda

Rwanda is the youngest District of the East Africa Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church. It was established in 1995. However it is growing at a faster stage.

The church in Rwanda has expanded to: 16,032 members, in 26 churches, and 5 districts. This is a sign of the UMC’s leadership in East Africa and Africa as a whole.

Rwanda is living the UMC mission of making disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.

Brief History about Rwanda
Sixteen years ago, the Republic of Rwanda was in obscurity. Wailing and bloodshed were visible. There was no place where people could rest their bodies in peace and safety.

Children, women, and men ran through, in and around looking for safety; as the rest of the world cried out to the Lord to end the brutal acts resulted from genocide. Today, if a person walks in Rwanda they see a vibrant economy, well dressed people and no trash anywhere – Oh, what a change!.

The country is now experiencing economic growth; emphasizing infrastructure, hygiene and human value.

The United Methodist Church (UMC) is planting churches and bringing emotional and spiritual healing to the people.

Priority Projects

East Africa Annual Conference looks at the Church in Rwanda as a valuable and costly stone in reviving the lost glory of love and peace. The Leadership says the society must join hands in rebuilding Rwanda.

Demonstrating love to our congregation, especially in Rwanda, enables the healing process to continue.
