UMC water excites IDP returnees of Gulu - Northern Uganda

By Grace Nakajje          June 23 2010
Over 200 households of Lacan Kwize Zone in Layibi Gulu district are to benefit from a bore hall drilled in the area by the East Africa Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church with financial support from North Georgia.

These house holds are mainly comprised of people returning from displaced camps after over twenty years of the Lord Resistance Army war in the Northern part of Uganda.

Gulu District Superintendent, Reverend David Ntogonya said the total cost of the borehole was worth ug shs. 18 million.
He said the initiative was after Pastor Gimmy Towson from North Georgia of the United States of America visited the area and was touched on the way communities could access water.
He said, most of the shallow wells in the area were burred since people had abandoned them after they freed the area for a long period. “The area had only one water source which could not serve everybody”
“We are grateful to our partners and I call for continuous support as we strive to make disciples of Jesus Christ” says Rev. Ntogonya.
He also reported that the church in his district is growing and there are a lot of demands in the area of Church construction, Education, Health, Leadership Development and empowerment of women.
